Level II is designed in combination with Level I to offer working Assistants a means to fulfill the educational requirements necessary to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).

What to expect
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have over 3,500 hours of veterinary assistant experience over no less than 18 months, working under the direction of a California-licensed veterinarian
- Have completed the Level I Veterinary Assistant Program or equivalent
- Have 100% of the Level I Veterinary Assistant Program tasks completed on the RVT task list
Program Overview
Completion of the Level II Veterinary Technician Candidate classes qualifies graduates to receive a Level II Veterinary Technician Candidate Certificatefor each completed course.
These certificates, along with the required work experience, will allow graduates to apply for Veterinary Technician licensure in the state of California.

Instruction focuses on subjects and principles deemed essential by the Veterinary Medical Board, the Registered Veterinary Technician Committee, and practicing veterinarians. Coursework is targeted to the skills and knowledge needed in a small animal hospital, without requiring general education courses before entry.
Students can continue working while gaining the education necessary for licensure. Upon completion of each Level II class, graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Program Delivery
- Length: 15 weeks
- Total Hours: 96
- Format: Blended Distance Education – Classes are online with 2 required in-residence sessions per semester
Exams
- Students are expected to take mid-terms, final exams, or quizzes on specified dates.
- If a student misses an exam, they must contact their program manager to schedule a make-up session.
- Make-up exams will be scheduled at times that do not interfere with other class meetings, and a program manager must be present.
